A federal grand jury has indicted an Atwater prison inmate accused of threatening to kill the family of a federal prosecutor, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced on Friday.

Stanislav Yelizarov, 35, who is incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary, Atwater, was charged with threatening the family of a federal official.

According to court documents, Yelizarov was previously convicted in the District of Maryland and was facing additional proceedings there and in the Fourth Circuit.

The prosecutor handling those cases was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland.

On March 23, 2024, Yelizarov allegedly used a recorded prison telephone line to threaten that he would kill the prosecutor’s “whole family.” Authorities said he had also previously sent threatening letters to the prosecutor.

If convicted, Yelizarov faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
