A girl was rescued early Friday after becoming trapped inside a chimney at a home in west Fresno, officials said.

Just after 3:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the 1800 block of W. Donner Avenue after a homeowner reported hearing noises on the roof, followed by cries for help coming from inside the chimney, the Fresno Fire Department said.

Firefighters discovered the girl stuck roughly halfway to three-quarters of the way down the chimney shaft. Due to the complexity of the situation, the department’s Urban Search and Rescue team was called to assist.

Approximately 25 firefighters worked for about an hour and a half to carefully dismantle the fireplace brick by brick and safely reach the girl.
