A 22-year-old Fresno man and his passenger were killed Thursday night when their vehicle was struck at a Fresno County intersection after running a stop sign, authorities said.

The crash happened around 9:05 p.m. at the intersection of Westlawn and McKinley avenues, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Isac Gomez, 22, of Fresno, was driving a Honda Civic northbound on Westlawn Avenue when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection, investigators said.

A Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 68-year-old woman heading west on McKinley Avenue, broadsided the Civic, causing both vehicles to crash into a grape field.

Gomez was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, officials said. His passenger, Skye Banda of Selma, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Silverado and her 70-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated at Clovis Community Medical Center.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
