A domestic violence report late Saturday night escalated into a seven-hour standoff with law enforcement that ended in the felony arrest of a Coarsegold man, authorities said.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the Madera County Sheriff’s Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting gunfire in the 31000 block of Road 400.

Dispatchers could hear a woman screaming in the background.

Deputies arrived and found the woman safe at a nearby home. Investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old Forrest Hall, who allegedly fired multiple rounds during the incident before fleeing in a vehicle.

Authorities located Hall’s car at his residence in Coarsegold. After he refused repeated commands to come out, the Madera County Regional SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiators and Drone Team were called in.

Despite hours of negotiation, Hall remained inside. Tactical officers ultimately used gas and other tactics to force him out.

Hall surrendered through a window around dawn and was arrested without further incident.

He was booked into Madera County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm and resisting arrest.
