A repeat DUI offender with five prior convictions was arrested after stopping his truck in the middle of Highway 99 near Manning Avenue and turning off his lights, authorities said Wednesday.
The dangerous stop led to a collision with a Ram truck, which crashed into the back of the vehicle, flipped, and came to rest across all northbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash happened Tuesday evening.
The Ram driver was not injured, thanks to wearing a seatbelt.
The DUI driver, whose blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with injuries that officials say are not life-threatening, authorities said.
He is now in custody and faces additional DUI charges.
