The Fresno Grizzlies starts the 2025 season Friday night at home versus Stockton. A new voice will call the games.

Tim Slack, most recently at Fresno Pacific University, will crack the mic this season for the California League club. He will also be the team’s media relations manager — a dual role common in minor league baseball.

Slack served a similar role at FPU, where he started in 2022. He also has Bulldog Sports Properties at Fresno State, Point Loma Nazarene University and Arizona Western College on his resume.

All Grizzlies games will be online either on the team website or through the MiLB app.

Additionally, 24 home games — including Opening Night — will be on ESPN Radio, 12 games each on 1430 or 790 AM.

Slack will voice all home games, and select road games, such as those at Visalia.

Meanwhile, the former Grizzlies voice Doug Greenwald is back in affiliated baseball with the Birmingham Barons, the AA Southern League team for the Chicago White Sox.

Greenwald served as the Grizzlies broadcaster 2003 through 2022. He also has a handful of MLB games with the Giants, where his late father, Hank Greenwald, was the longtime voice.

For the past two baseball seasons, Greenwald delivered play-by-play for independent league teams in Winnipeg, and Davis. He also broadcast college women’s basketball for UC Davis.

Greenwald also worked a handful of games for Fresno Pacific this season.

Baseball Around the Dial

The Giants, A’s and Dodgers remain on the Fresno airwaves.

Dodgers games again can be heard on Fox Sports 1340. Charley Steiner, Rick Monday, and Tim Neverett have the call. Steiner returns after missing most of last year battling cancer.

Giants games will air on ESPN Radio 1430. Hall of Famer Jon Miller and Dave Flemming will call most of the games, with Joe Ritzo and FP Santangelo as backups.

The A’s may no longer be in Oakland, but they can still be heard on ESPN Radio 790. Ken Korach, former Grizzlies broadcaster Johnny Doskow, and fourth-generation voice Chris Caray handle the duties.

Caray is the great-grandson of the legendary Harry Caray, grandson of the late Skip Caray, and son of Chip Caray.

Fox Sports 1340 is the home of Fresno State baseball and veteran Bulldogs play-by-play voice Paul Loeffler.

ESPN Radio 1430 also airs select local high school baseball games.

KSEE/CBS 47 Looking for News Director

Steven Shaw is out as news director of KSEE 24/CBS 47 after serving 20 months. He left in February to take the news director job at WOWK, the CBS affiliate in Charleston, West Virginia.

Shaw worked for WOWK as an assistant news director 2018-2020. He came to the Fresno duopoly after serving as news director at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

All stations are owned by Nexstar Media Group.

Nexstar has a job posting for the Fresno news director job, paying $100,000-plus a year.

Other Job Openings

Fresno-based Radio Bilingue is seeking a managing producer for national news. As the name implies, fluency in English and Spanish is required. The job pays $70,000 to $75,000.

ABC 30 is looking for a manager of news and content, a six-figure position. The station is also looking for producers and a photographer.

New KMPH Reporter

Brianda Lemus-Ceballos joined KMPH Fox 26 in February. The Lindsay native previously worked two years at the KNVN-TV, the Telemundo station in Chico.

Lemus-Ceballos is bilingual, graduating from Sacramento State. She also attended Fresno State.

CMAC Crushes the WAVE Awards

Congratulations to CMAC, winners of 11 WAVE Awards last month.

The Community Media Access Collaborative provides training and a downtown Fresno studio for local content creators.

Fresno hosted the Western Access Video Excellence Awards this year at the DoubleTree Hotel.

Seven of the video producers learned their craft from CMAC programs.

“From our Youth Voices program, to CMAC Sports to film contests like The Big Tell and 72-Hour Film Race, these talented creators showcased their skills and took home well-deserved honors at the WAVE Awards,” CMAC’s Bryan Harley said.

Among the winners was Kyle Lowe for “Death of ArtHop,” in the community issues professional category; and Hannah Johnson of Redwood High School for the “Be a Lifesaver” PSA (student). The full list can be found here.
