The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on Saturday, March 29, into Sunday’s early hours targeting drivers suspected of being under the influence.

In the last DUI enforcement period on Saturday, March 22, the Fresno police arrested 12 drivers on suspicion of DUI.

Officers will be on the streets from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., looking for impaired drivers, police said. Authorities remind the public that DUI is not limited to alcohol, as some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect driving ability.

While marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.

A first-time DUI offense can result in fines and penalties averaging $13,500, along with a suspended driver’s license, police said.

The patrols are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
