The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday at an undisclosed location, the department announced.

The checkpoint locations are determined based on data identifying areas with a higher incidence of impaired driving-related crashes.

Police said the operation aims to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

Authorities warned that impairment extends beyond alcohol, noting that certain prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana can affect a driver’s ability.

While marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.

A first-time DUI conviction can cost drivers an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license, police said.
