The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. to identify drivers suspected of being under the influence.

The department reminds the public that impaired driving can result from alcohol, prescription medications, and over-the-counter drugs, which may interfere with driving abilities.

The use of marijuana, whether medicinal or recreational, is legal, but driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

First-time DUI offenders face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

This program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
