Fresno residents needing help with their down payments can get up to $25,000, but money is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, so act soon.
Fresno Housing anticipates being able to help 20 to 25 first-time home buyers through its OpenHome Down Payment Assistance Program, funded by a $500,000 donation from U.S. Bank, the nonprofit Beyond Housing Foundation said in a news release.
“Safe and stable housing helps children, families and communities thrive,” said Ashley Bocek, community affairs manager at U.S. Bank. “By working with the Beyond Housing Foundation to provide financial tools and resources, we aim to help drive long-term stability and economic growth for families seeking homeownership opportunities.”
Down Payment Assistance to Help Renters Make Leap to Home Ownership
Applicants must be first-time homebuyers and meet income limits. They will also need to work with lenders or Realtors who will submit the request. An 8-hour certified homebuyer education course is required.
Fresno Housing wants to help families and individuals transition from renting to ownership, a key piece of the foundation’s mission.
“Homeownership is a cornerstone of building generational wealth, and with support from U.S. Bank, we are breaking down barriers for underserved families,” said Tiffany B. Mangum, executive director of Beyond Housing Foundation. “The OpenHome Down Payment Assistance Program is more than just financial support; it’s a pathway to stability, opportunity and economic mobility for families across our community.”
