A 40-year-old woman from Winton was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle collision near Firebaugh, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:18 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 7 and Avenue 7 ½, also known as Firebaugh Boulevard.

CHP officers said the woman was driving a 2015 Nissan Sentra westbound on Avenue 7 when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection.

The Sentra was struck on its left side by a 2008 Ford F-250 traveling eastbound on Avenue 7 ½, authorities said.

The Ford’s driver, a 55-year-old man from Firebaugh, was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The CHP urged drivers to avoid distractions, obey traffic signs, and always wear seatbelts.
