The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the distribution of fraudulent letters falsely claiming to be official warnings about fines for shooting guns on New Year’s Eve, they said in a statement Monday morning.

Residents in the Madera Ranchos community reported receiving the letters, which feature the Madera Sheriff’s logo and “Signed: Sheriff Tyson Pogue.”
However, Sheriff Tyson Pogue confirmed neither he nor the department issued the letters or authorized anyone to act on their behalf.
