A 5th-grade student was cited for making threats against Cedarwood Elementary School, on Coventry and Palo Alto avenues in Clovis, after a voicemail was left on the school’s main phone line Monday evening, the Clovis Police Department said in a statement.

Officers received the disturbing message around 6:30 p.m., which stated that someone was going to “murder up” the school the following day.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation, and officers worked with the school principal to trace the threat.

Their inquiry led them to the home of the student, though there was insufficient evidence to charge the juvenile with a felony.

The child was instead cited to the Clovis Police Department’s Juvenile Diversion Program, which focuses on addressing minor criminal offenses and providing resources for at-risk youth.

Authorities emphasized that any threats to schools will be investigated thoroughly and those responsible will be held accountable.

They also reminded the public not to repost threats on social media but to report them directly to law enforcement.

For emergencies, residents can contact 911, while non-emergencies can be reported at (559) 324-2800.
