A 17-year-old male was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stabbed his 2-year-old brother multiple times and attempted to strangle his mother at a home near the intersection of K Avenue and Burke Street, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.

Officers were dispatched to the scene just before 2 a.m. in response to a stabbing report. Authorities found the teenager had attacked his brother and tried to harm his mother.

The suspect’s stepfather intervened, removing the teenager from the mother before the suspect fled the scene.

The 2-year-old was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital and is in stable condition.

The Visalia PD Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident to determine the motive.

The 17-year-old is facing two counts of attempted murder and was arrested without incident, authorities said.
