Community leaders sent a message to the leaders of Iran’s repressive government on Thursday during a rally at Fresno City College.
The aim of the event was to call attention to the injustices women face in Iran, said Nasreen Johnson, president of the State Center Community College Board of Trustees.
“You don’t have to be an Iranian to care. You just have to be a human being,” said Fresno City Councilman Mike Karbassi.
On Monday, President Joe Biden used a White House celebration of Nowruz (the Persian New Year) to pay tribute to Iranian women and girls who took to the streets of Iran to protest following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last year. The president vowed to keep pressure on Tehran.
