Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation custody Monday morning, the Delano Police Department said in a statement.

Cesar Hernandez, 34, who was in custody for murder, was last seen at about 10:40 a.m. near the prison courthouse at 10th Avenue and Kensington Street.

Officials said Hernandez was wearing an orange CDCR jumpsuit and white thermals when he escaped.

The Delano Police Department, along with CDCR and other law enforcement agencies, is actively searching for Hernandez, who is considered dangerous.

Community members are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity or possible sightings to law enforcement.

Authorities have emphasized that Hernandez should not be approached under any circumstances.
