At the start of Philip Teresi’s radio career, he worked for program director E. Curtis Johnson.
Now, the two are paired up as co-hosts of “The Afternoon Drive” on KMJ radio (580 AM/105.9 FM).
Johnson, a longtime Fresno radio executive, joined his protégé as full-time co-host on Monday.
“I’m really excited to work with him again. He is one of the best in business. I would not be here if he did not let me walk through the door,” Teresi said.
This is a return to talk radio for Johnson. He most recently worked as the program director and a DJ at 105.1 The Blaze.
“It’s a nice change of pace. It is the first time in 30 years, I haven’t been the program director, but it’s kind of nice to sort of focus on having fun on the air,” Johnson said.
Teresi started his radio career at the former KRZR 103.7 “The Wild Hare” in 1997. He used several on-air DJ names. Johnson was the program director and on-air talent at the time. The rock station eventually flipped to 103.7 The Beat in 2010.
“It’s a no-pressure situation. It’s nice working with someone that I know really well and who also knows me. And we don’t have any baggage. We’re just old friends, old colleagues that have reunited,” Johnson said.
Johnson (he says “E” stands for “Excellent”) fills the vacancy caused when Skip Echeverria left the show last year. In fact, Echeverria left radio altogether, concentrating on her career as a therapist.
KMPH Weathercaster Officially Leaves
As previously reported in Media Man, KMPH Fox 26 weather anchor Kevan Ramer has left the station, and Fresno. He is moving to Montgomery, Alabama, to take care of his elderly mother. For Ramer, it is a return to his home state.
In a video message posted on the station’s website, Ramer said he plans to take another undisclosed TV job.
“Thanks for allowing me into your living room, your homes. Thanks for watching. I appreciate all your support,” Ramer said.
Ramer started his broadcasting career in Montgomery. He also worked in Pensacola, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Louisville, Kentucky; for The Weather Channel and, for the last 16 years, at KMPH.
Christina Lopez has been weather anchoring on the “10 O’clock News.” The station is actively looking for a new meteorologist.
Babb Takes Over CBS 47 Morning Role
Mederios Babb is now the full-time morning anchor on CBS 47, she announced on Twitter.
Babb has served a variety of reporting roles since joining the CBS 47/KSEE-24 duopoly in 2019. She replaces Megan Rupe, who left the station last year for a TV news job in Washington, D.C.
