Louis Acosta, a familiar face in the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office, was sworn in as a Deputy District Attorney on Friday.
Acosta’s journey to the prosecutor’s office has been anything but conventional. Born in Mexico, he was encouraged by a primary school counselor to pursue law.
Inspired by American courtroom dramas, he enrolled at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, earning his law degree in 1991. He worked as a corporate attorney before moving to the United States, where he shifted to the insurance industry while studying American law.
In 2013, Acosta joined the TCDA as a legal office assistant, working with investigators on child abduction and welfare fraud cases. A year later, he became one of the office’s first male victim advocates, offering support to those navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system.
By 2019, he transitioned to a prosecution assistant role, building on his legal expertise. This year, he passed the California bar exam, marking a significant milestone in his career.

“Today is the beginning of a new chapter in my career and I look forward to serving with same enthusiasm that I have throughout the years in this honorable office. Now, I see how each part of my preparation is an asset to better serve as a prosecutor,” Acosta said.
