The U.S. Embassy in Moscow is advising American citizens to leave Russia immediately due to security risks stemming from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The embassy stated that the war could have “unpredictable consequences,” and dual U.S.-Russian citizens, in particular, may face forced conscription into Russia’s military. Additionally, Americans could be at risk of harassment or wrongful detention by Russian security services.
The Kremlin has dismissed the embassy’s warnings, labeling them as “not new.”
Next week, February 24, will mark one year since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
