A routine traffic stop on Highway 99 turned into a significant drug bust on Saturday, as officers uncovered two kilos of suspected cocaine hidden in a vehicle, the CHP Central Division reported on social media Tuesday morning.

The incident began when officers pulled over a Nissan Murano at the Hammett Road off-ramp in Stanislaus County for a window tint violation.

Officers said that while questioning the driver and passenger, officers observed conflicting statements and noticeable signs of nervousness, prompting a request for a K-9 unit to assist in the investigation.

The K-9’s alert to narcotics led to a search of the vehicle, where officers discovered the hidden cocaine in the driver’s side quarter panel.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had presented false identification and later officers found that he had multiple outstanding warrants, including extradition warrants related to narcotics charges.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on felony drug charges.
