The Whole Vine Festival, a two-day celebration of the San Joaquin Valley’s agriculture, art, and community, is set to return on Oct. 19-20 at Fresno State.

The event expects to draw over 5,000 attendees, showcasing the significance of local agriculture while providing a platform for artists, musicians, and food vendors. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Vickie Goudreau, President of Whole Vine Inc., a nonprofit organization, stated that “Every element (of the festival) is local to the San Joaquin Valley. The educational institutions involved, the food trucks, the businesses….they have to have a footprint in the San Joaquin Valley.”

Local Art, Animals, and All the Fun

The festival will feature diverse activities for attendees of all ages. The kids’ zone will include interactive exhibits on honey and pollinators, along with a petting zoo featuring animals from Kim’s Petting Zoo in Madera.

Local law enforcement will showcase their canine unit and mounted police, allowing children to learn about the roles animals play in public service.

Art enthusiasts can explore the Science 2 building which will showcase works from 20 local artists focused on themes of nature and Valley architecture. Melodic music will accompany the art displays, creating a vibrant atmosphere for attendees.

Festival-goers can enjoy a variety of local food trucks competing for the title of best infused menu item. The winner will receive $1,000 from the Table Grape Commission.

Live music performances will span genres from jazz to rock, featuring local talents, including Fresno State’s Professor Corey Whitehead, known for his flamenco performances.

Goudreau expressed pride in the festival’s community involvement: “We’re always looking for new board members (and) we’re always looking for happy volunteers.”

Goudreau noted that the festival relies heavily on volunteers, with only two contracted positions: the event planner and the vendor coordinator.

Local Agriculture Highlight in Many Ways

Highlighting the festival’s commitment to local agriculture, Goudreau announced the presence of approximately 2,000 pounds of Central Valley table grapes, alongside special grape-infused ice cream from Rosa Brothers Milk Company in Tulare, available for free sampling.

The festival will also honor Jon Marthedal, a farmer whose family has been in agriculture for over a century. Goudreau described him as a crucial advisor for the event, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the individuals behind the agricultural products that sustain the community.

With free admission and parking, Goudreau encourages families to bring blankets and enjoy a picnic while soaking in the entertainment.
