According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, Vice President Kamala Harris has extended her lead over former President Donald Trump in the race for the 2024 presidential election.

The poll, conducted after their recent debate, shows Harris leading Trump 47% to 42% among registered voters. This represents a slight increase from an Aug. 21-28 poll, where Harris held a four-point advantage over Trump.

67.1 Million Watched the Debate

The poll conducted after their recent debate shows Harris leading Trump 47% to 42% among registered voters, a slight increase from an Aug. 21-28 poll where Harris held a four-point advantage.

The debate, watched by 67.1 million viewers, was largely perceived as a win for Harris. Among those who watched, 53% believed Harris won, compared to 24% for Trump.

Harris was noted for her strong performance in moral integrity and relatability, with 52% of viewers saying she displayed higher moral integrity compared to 29% for Trump.

Biden Age Problem Is Now Trump’s Problem

Age has emerged as a significant factor in this election cycle, with 52% of voters considering Trump too old for government work, while only 7% feel the same about Harris. This contrast highlights shifting dynamics since President Biden, 81, dropped his re-election bid in July.

The poll also reveals concerns within the Republican party about Trump’s debate performance.

Only 53% of Republican voters felt Trump won the debate, with 31% saying neither candidate won and 14% giving the victory to Harris. Additionally, one in five Republican voters felt Trump “didn’t appear sharp” during the debate.

While national polls offer valuable insights, the final election outcome will likely hinge on battleground states due to the Electoral College system.
