California Treasurer Fiona Ma has emerged victorious as a former staffer agreed to drop a sexual harassment case against her, according to a recent piece in Politico.
The state reached a separate $350,000 settlement with the plaintiff, Judith Blackwell, absolving the State Treasurer’s Office of any wrongdoing.
Ma expressed confidence in the outcome, stating, “They knew they didn’t have a chance because they have no witnesses, they have no corroborating evidence.” Her attorney declared it “a complete victory for the treasurer.”
Blackwell’s lawyer said she was “pleased to have reached an amicable resolution” and is ready to move forward.
Ma, who is running for lieutenant governor in 2026, sees this as an opportunity to focus on “bigger issues of the state.” She acknowledged the vulnerability of elected officials to lawsuits but feels better prepared with her legal representation.
