Story Update on August 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM

As of Tuesday morning, the fire has grown to 1,305 acres according to CalFire.

Original Story

The Coffee Pot Fire, which began on Aug. 3 after a lightning strike, remains at 0% containment. As of Monday afternoon, the fire has grown from 28 acres to 934 acres, CalFire reported.

CalFire Tulare reported on Facebook that the fire has continued to expand, moving slowly down steep terrain. The fire has been expanding, fueled by large burning logs rolling downhill and dry conditions on the rugged landscape.

While the fire does not currently threaten lives or property, suppression efforts are ongoing. Firefighters anticipate the blaze could persist for weeks.

CalFire Priorities for the Coffee Pot Fire

CalFire’s priority is establishing new indirect control lines on the fire’s south and west flanks.

On the west flank, hand crews are building an indirect control line from South Fork Drive northward.

On the south flank, they are constructing a control line from Salt Creek Ridge to South Fork Drive, approximately one mile from the park boundary.

These control lines aim to protect the community of Three Rivers.

Additionally, firefighters are exploring the creation of indirect handlines along the Lady Bug Trail on the fire’s east flank. Water-dropping helicopters may be deployed to cool hot spots as needed.
