An autopsy Saturday gave investigators more information on an infant found dead in the backyard of a Fresno home. And as police still have more questions, they are reaching out to the public for help.

Fresno Police responded Tuesday to a residence near Backer and Fillmore avenues, following the report of an infant found dead in the backyard.

Emergency personnel confirmed the infant’s death when they arrived. The residents reported discovering the infant and did not know how the baby ended up in their yard or who she was.

The autopsy revealed the infant was a female, born shortly before her body was found, Fresno Police reported.

Additional tests are underway to determine the cause of death and whether the infant was alive at birth.

The parents’ identities and the circumstances leading to the infant being left at the location remain unknown.
