As of Wednesday morning, 1,118 personnel, supported by 22 crews, 65 engines, and nine helicopters, are battling the Basin Fire, which has grown to 13,926 acres, according to forest service officials.

Containment of the fire has improved to 26%, up from 17% reported on Tuesday.

Fire growth has slowed due to higher humidity, with movement north toward Dinkey Creek and to the west/northwest. Firefighting efforts are focused on protecting structures and energy infrastructure at Balch Camp.

The Basin Fire’s southwest front has reached the contingency bulldozer line on Sacate Ridge, and crews are working to improve this line and complete fuel breaks around the fire’s western and northern edges.

Three spike camps have been established near the fire perimeter to reduce travel time and maximize work on the fire line.

New temporary fire restrictions prohibit campfires, welding, and smoking in non-developed campsites. For details, visit Sierra National Forest Alerts.

A temporary partial forest closure order for the Basin Fire area is in effect from June 30 to July 30, 2024. The public is urged to respect closure signs and avoid the area to prevent accidents and interference with firefighting efforts. For the forest order and area map, visit the Sierra National Forest website.

The following campgrounds are closed due to the fire: Bear Wallow, Black Rock, Gravel Flat Group, Kirch Flat, Kirch Flat Group, Oak Flat, Ross Crossing, and Sawmill Flat. Visitors are advised to stay out of the area.

Road closure signs have been placed on the fire perimeter. The public should review road closures before traveling, as no one will be allowed to enter zones under evacuation warnings. For emergency resources, visit Fresno County Emergency.
