For the first time since October, President Joe Biden leads former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup, according to a Fox News poll.
This shift follows Trump’s recent conviction in his Manhattan hush money trial.

3-Point Swing Between Candidates

The poll indicates that 50% of voters would support Biden, while 48% would back Trump in a head-to-head race.

This represents a 3-point swing from the last poll in May, where Trump led Biden 49% to 48%. Although the results fall within the margin of error, this is the first time Biden has led in a Fox News poll since October 2023. The change comes as Trump’s legal troubles appear to have impacted voter perceptions ahead of their upcoming June 27 debate in Atlanta on CNN.

Last month, a jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, marking the first conviction of an American president for felony crimes.

Biden has experienced victories and setbacks recently. His son, Hunter Biden, was convicted of illegal gun possession earlier this month.

However, the administration has made strides in stimulating the economy, with a third of respondents expressing positive views about the economic situation – the highest approval during Biden’s presidency.

Biden 9-Point Lead Among Independent Voters

Other key findings from the Fox News poll include Biden’s 9-point lead among independent voters, a significant shift from May when independents favored Trump by 2 points.

“The underlying demographic tendencies remain consistent,” noted Republican pollster Daron Shaw. “Biden has improved slightly with women and seniors, which helps him despite losing support among younger voters and African Americans.”

In a potential five-way race including independent candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West, Biden holds a narrow lead with 43% over Trump’s 42%.

The survey, conducted with 1,100 registered voters, has a margin of error of 3%.
