Even though the season ended early for the Fresno State softball team with a heart-breaking extra-innings loss in the Mountain West tournament, senior Taylor Gilmore was named the 2024 Mountain West Pitcher of the Year and earned All-MW first-team honors.

Gilmore logged a 9-2 record and a save, with a 3.04 ERA, during conference play. In 80 2/3 innings of work, she recorded 66 strikeouts.

Senior Sophia Medellin also was named an All-MW first-team selection. Medellin led the Bulldogs at the plate through conference play with a .370 batting average. The senior had a team-high 27 hits along with 16 RBIs, and a .575 slugging percentage. The Santa Clarita standout started all 22 games at first base for Fresno State and logged a perfect fielding percentage.

Sophomore Serayah Neiss represented the Bulldogs on the All-MW second team. She had a 2.88 ERA in the circle during conference play. In 68 innings, she recorded 54 strikeouts. Neiss logged four wins and four saves. The Newberg, Oregon native limited opposing batters to a .243 batting average.

Conference Tournament

The Bulldogs lost to Boise State, 5-4, in eight innings on May 9 to the host Broncos in the conference tournament.

Boise State seized a one-run advantage with two singles in the top of the eighth inning, and the Bulldogs were retired in order.

The Bulldogs finished the season with a 33-19 overall mark, 13-9 in the MW.

San Diego State (31-18, 15-7) defeated Boise State in the title game. The Aztecs face nationally ranked No. 20 Virginia Tech in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional this weekend.
