Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has faced several health challenges, including an unusual incident where he said that a worm entered his brain and died, leading to abnormalities.
In 2010, Kennedy began experiencing severe memory loss and mental fog, which he discussed in a deposition two years later. Seeking advice from top neurologists familiar with his uncle Sen. Ted Kennedy’s medical history (who had passed away from brain cancer in 2009), Kennedy learned from a New York doctor that his health issues might have been caused by a worm that entered his brain, ate a part of it, and then perished.

“I have cognitive problems, clearly … I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me,” Kennedy said at the time.
These health struggles affected his earning capacity due to cognitive issues, according to published reports.
Additional Health Troubles
Around the same period, he also dealt with mercury poisoning, which can lead to various neurological problems. Despite these challenges, Kennedy now says he has recovered from memory loss and brain fog and that the parasite did not require treatment.
Additionally, the now 70-year-old Kennedy dealt with atrial fibrillation (A-fib), an irregular heartbeat, for many years. However, He told The New York Times that it has been more than a decade since he experienced this condition.
Regarding his medical records, Kennedy’s campaign declined to provide them to the Times but mentioned his extensive travels to Africa, South America, and Asia, suggesting he might have contracted the parasite during those trips.

Kennedy’s story drew skepticism from experts like Dr. Peter Hotez, who noted the incomplete nature of Kennedy’s story without detailed scans.
Lifestyle Changes
Meanwhile, Kennedy says he has made changes to his lifestyle post these health episodes, including sleep improvements, reduced travel, decreased fish consumption, and undergoing chelation therapy to remove metals from his body.
On the campaign front, Kennedy has emphasized his vitality compared to older rivals like President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump by engaging in active pursuits like skiing and weightlifting.
His personal health beliefs, including concerns about vaccines, are also a notable aspect of his public persona.
