Donald Trump’s list of potential running mates features prominent figures from the right wing, with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem emerging as a reported contender.
“I realized another unpleasant job needed to be done.” — South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, reflecting on her decision to get her gun and shoot Cricket
However, a revelation from her upcoming book “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” detailed by The Guardian, sheds light on a controversial event involving her 14-month-old dog, Cricket.
“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, describing Cricket as “untrainable,” “dangerous,” and “less than worthless… as a hunting dog.”
Noem explains that after Cricket repeatedly displayed aggressive behavior, including attacking a family’s chickens, she felt compelled to take drastic action.
“I realized another unpleasant job needed to be done,” Noem writes, reflecting on her decision to get her gun and shoot Cricket.
Dog Trainer: Behavior Reflects the Owner
Critics have pointed out that the responsibility for such behavior ultimately rests with the owner rather than the dog itself.
“To me, it’s a lack of guidance by the owner, or training by the owner, or discipline by the owner,” said Dan Lussen, a professional hunting dog trainer, highlighting the importance of proper training.
Aside from this controversy, Noem’s tenure as governor of South Dakota has faced scrutiny for her handling of various issues, including her clashes with Native tribes over alleged racist remarks and pandemic measures.
Trump’s history of disdain towards dogs, evident in his past comments, contrasts with Noem’s actions but may not significantly impact her potential as a vice presidential candidate.
