When it comes to Fresno weather this week, can you say “heavenly”?

The NWS Hanford forecast calls for a high of 91 Monday followed by highs in the low 80s through Friday.

What a nice way to kick off September, a month in which temperatures above 100 are not uncommon.

Perhaps we are looking at a repeat of 2023, the last year in which Fresno had zero triple-digit days.

Rain in Labor Day Weekend Forecast?

The only blemish in the early September forecast is “the potential for the tropical disturbance east of Hurricane Karina to develop into a tropical system,” says NWS.

If that system moves into Central and Southern California by this weekend, it could produce rain.

“Current probabilities for rainfall in our area are low during this time, but the potential exists for more significant precipitation,” NWS Hanford said in its Monday morning forecast discussion.

The determining factor will be whether the system stays out over the Pacific Ocean or turns inland.

Hurricane Karina gathered strength Monday, becoming a Category 4 storm in the Pacific.

The U.S. Hurricane Center also said that Karina was about 1,020 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. It reached maximum sustained winds of 145 mph as it moved west.
