A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old woman earlier this week, according to the Hanford Police Department.

Investigators identified the victim as Sully Cortezneri, who was shot and killed early Monday morning.

Police said Cortezneri had gone to the River Oaks Apartments to meet Jason Harris, 24, on Wednesday.

As she was leaving, Harris allegedly attempted to rob her of her money. During an altercation, Cortezneri tried to stop the robbery and Harris shot her multiple times, killing her, authorities said.

Harris fled the scene and his whereabouts were initially unknown. Investigators later tracked him to the area of 11th Avenue and Cortner Street. When officers attempted to contact him, Harris ran, leading to a short foot pursuit before he was taken into custody, police said.

Detectives said Harris was positively identified as the suspect and that the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered during the investigation.

Harris was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of murder, robbery and resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer.
