A possible DUI crash involving three vehicles blocked lanes at the intersection of Herndon and Clovis avenues Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Clovis police responded at about 1:04 p.m. to reports of a three-vehicle collision. Investigators said an adult female driver, suspected of driving under the influence, was stopped at a red light westbound on Herndon Avenue when traffic ahead began moving.

The driver then accelerated into the intersection and veered to the right, striking a southbound black SUV on Clovis Avenue that was waiting to turn. The impact pushed the SUV into a white pickup truck next to it.

A child was inside the suspected DUI driver’s vehicle at the time of the crash, authorities said.

The driver of the SUV, an adult female, complained of pain and was the only person to report injuries. The driver of the white pickup, an adult male, was not injured.

Police said the suspected DUI driver was arrested and taken to a hospital for medical clearance. She was charged with two misdemeanors: driving under the influence of drugs and child endangerment, police said.

During the investigation, officers said a separate driver approached southbound on Clovis Avenue and spoke with an officer. Authorities reported seeing beer cans on the vehicle floor and arrested that driver on suspicion of DUI as well.

The investigation remains ongoing.
