Westlands Water District will award $20,000 through its annual high school scholarship program, supporting students pursuing higher education.
Over the past 21 years, Westlands has helped over 160 students pursue their academic goals. These students have gone on to pursue careers in various industries, including business, healthcare, STEM, and more, Westlands said in a press release.
This year, Westlands will grant $1,000 scholarships to 20 students graduating in 2026.
“By investing in our youth, we are playing a small role in advancing the future of our region,” said Allison Febbo, Westlands general manager. “Sometimes all it takes for a student to succeed is for someone to help support their dreams, and with these scholarships, Westlands aims to support our local students as they chart their paths to fulfill their full potential.”
Westlands select recipients based on their applications, which focuses on student achievement and the importance of agriculture and water.
Applications require students to submit an essay, transcripts, and two letters of reference. Additionally, applicants are given the opportunity to discuss their leadership, community involvement, aspirations, and financial need.
High school seniors graduating from Reef-Sunset Unified School District, Coalinga-Huron Unified School District, Firebaugh-Las Deltas Unified School District, Hanford Joint Union High School District, Lemoore Union High School District, Mendota Unified School District, Riverdale Joint Unified School District, and Golden Plains Unified School District are eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply for is 11:59 p.m. on Monday April 20.
Students can submit their applications and supporting documents here.
