A vehicle and its occupants “miraculously” escaped injury after shots were fired on Highway 41 near Herndon Avenue, prompting a temporary road closure, authorities said on Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol units in Fresno responded to the shots-fired call with assistance from the Fresno Police Department’s ShotSpotter system.

The technology helped quickly narrow down the search area, CHP said.

The ramp from Herndon Avenue to Highway 41 was temporarily shut down while officers searched the roadway and surrounding area.
