The reward for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted in a fatal 2019 Southern California mall shooting has been increased to $1 million.
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the arrest of 30-year-old Omar Alexander Cardenas who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
Cardenas is accused of firing several rounds from a semi-automatic handgun on Aug. 15, 2019, striking a man in the head and causing his death. The shooting took place in a large outdoor shopping center in Sylmar, immediately next to Los Angeles.
A local arrest warrant was issued for Cardenas on April 3, 2020, in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, where he was charged with murder. On Sept. 2, 2021, a federal arrest warrant was issued in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California after he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Cardenas, born March 23, 1995, in California, is described as a White Hispanic male with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He is between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighs approximately 240 to 300 pounds. The FBI notes that he often has a beard and wears prescription glasses.
