Just after 1:20 p.m. on Monday, a vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into an apartment building on the 3000 block of West Ashlan Avenue near Marks Avenue, according to the Fresno Fire Department.
The two occupants inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, an occupant who was inside the apartment unit at the time of the crash was not injured.
The family’s dog, also inside during the collision, was uninjured and safely reunited with its owner.
The collision caused substantial structural damage to the building and damaged gas lines. The fire department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team was called to the scene to evaluate the building’s stability and install shoring to help prevent a potential collapse. As a safety precaution, utilities were shut off to both the impacted apartment and a neighboring unit.
As a result of the extensive damage, three residents, including two children, have been displaced from their home.
The Fresno Police and Fire Chaplaincy is currently working with the affected family to ensure they receive necessary assistance, officials said.
