A woman who drove 80 mph through a red light in Visalia, causing a fiery crash that killed a man, was convicted Tuesday of gross vehicular manslaughter, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

A jury in Tulare County Superior Court found Ping See, 40, guilty of felony gross vehicular manslaughter with negligence for the April 21, 2021, collision that left one man dead.

Prosecutors said See was driving her Honda SUV westbound on Walnut Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. when she ran a red light at Mooney Boulevard and struck a pickup truck. The truck burst into flames, and witnesses rushed to help, using water to douse the fire. The victim, an adult male, died from his injuries.

See told law enforcement investigators she was upset with her husband, which led to her reckless driving. Authorities determined alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

The verdict came nearly five years after the fatal collision.

See faces up to six years in prison under current California sentencing laws for manslaughter.

Prosecutors said they will argue for the maximum sentence when See appears for sentencing March 24 in Superior Court.
