A motorcyclist was injured Monday morning in a collision with a semi-truck at a busy Visalia intersection, authorities said.

Just before 6:30 a.m., officers with the Visalia Police Department responded to a traffic collision at Riggin Avenue and Plaza Drive involving a semi-truck and a motorcycle.

Police said the semi-truck was traveling northbound on Plaza Drive with a green light when the motorcycle, traveling westbound on Riggin Avenue, failed to stop for a red light and collided with the truck.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. The motorcyclist sustained injuries and was transported to Kaweah Health for treatment.

The department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation.

Authorities advised motorists to use alternate routes and avoid the area of Plaza Drive and Riggin Avenue while crews work to clear the roadway.
