Authorities are searching for a 70-year-old man who went missing after floating the Merced River and failing to arrive at a planned meeting location, officials said.

The search began Sunday afternoon after a reporting party told the Merced County Sheriff’s Office that Richard Daly had been dropped off near the Merced River around 10 a.m. to use a raft and float the river. Daly told the reporting party he would meet them four hours later at the Shaffer Bridge in Winton.

When Daly did not arrive, deputies were notified and launched a search. The sheriff’s office deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle to scan the river, and assistance was provided by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Air 101 Helicopter.

As of Sunday evening, Daly had not been located. Deputies continue to search the area, officials said.

Daly is described as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 155 pounds, with long gray hair, a gray beard and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray and green jacket with a black hood and a black hat and was using a baby blue raft.
