On Thursday, the Visalia Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, in coordination with the Evidence Unit, destroyed approximately 3,200 pounds of marijuana seized from previous investigations involving illegal shipments out of state.
The confiscated cannabis had an estimated street value of $3.2 million in California and more than $9 million on the East Coast, according to the Visalia Police Department.
The Narcotics Unit reminded the public that federal and state laws make it a felony to ship, distribute, or sell marijuana without the proper license.
Officers regularly conduct parcel interdiction operations and work closely with shipping carriers throughout the Central Valley.
Over the past year, the unit confiscated more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana, resulting in numerous arrests, and officials emphasized that each seized parcel is thoroughly investigated.
