Snow fell in Walker Pass and other areas of Kern County this week, prompting the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to issue safety reminders for drivers.

Officials advised motorists to slow down, increase following distances, use headlights in low visibility, and carry chains while checking road conditions before traveling.

Residents were also encouraged to inform someone of their travel plans.

Authorities stressed caution as winter weather can make roads slippery and reduce visibility, creating hazardous conditions even for experienced drivers.
