A 29-year-old man on felony probation was arrested in Kerman after Sanger police said he assaulted his girlfriend and fled the area earlier this week.

Officers responded Wednesday to a reported disturbance in the city of Sanger and contacted a female victim with visible injuries, according to the Sanger Police Department.

The victim told officers she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, identified as Josiah Ruiz Escobar, 29, who left before police arrived.

Detectives later developed information that Escobar was armed. On Friday, with assistance from the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium, officers located Escobar at an apartment complex in Kerman and arrested him without incident.

Authorities said investigators served a search warrant and recovered two firearms, ammunition and a ballistic vest.

Police said Escobar is a documented gang member and is on felony probation. The original crime occurred in Sanger, and authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
