California Highway Patrol officers from the Porterville area responded Tuesday night to a traffic crash on Highway 65 south of Avenue 200, authorities said.

The car veered off the roadway into an orchard and hit a tree.

At the time of the crash, the roadway was wet due to heavy rain, according to a social media post from the agency.

The CHP noted that more than 1.2 million weather-related crashes occur annually and urged drivers to reduce their speed during rainy conditions.
