As Super Bowl LX approaches, the Clovis Police Department is reminding residents to plan ahead for a safe ride home.
Extra officers will be on patrol Sunday, looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drug, the department said in a statement.
“Super Bowl celebrations are a time for fun and community, but safety should always come first,” said Sgt. Abby Padgett, traffic supervisor. “If you plan to drink, make sure you have a reliable way to get home, whether that’s a designated sober driver, rideshare, taxi or public transportation.”
Police advise fans to choose a sober driver, offer non-alcoholic options if hosting, and intervene if friends or family try to drive impaired. Impairment isn’t limited to alcohol — prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, cannabis products and other substances can also affect driving.
Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired should call 9-1-1.
The department’s safety campaign is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
