Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday released a protest song condemning the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis and memorializing two people fatally shot by federal officers this month, NPR reported.
The song, titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” honors Renee Macklin Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed in separate encounters with federal agents. Springsteen said he wrote the song Saturday, recorded it the following day and released it “in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis.”
“It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good,” Springsteen wrote on social media.
A full-band rock song with an E Street Choir singalong, the track criticizes President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and senior adviser Stephen Miller, while disputing official accounts of the shootings.
The release follows Springsteen’s recent public criticism of ICE and longstanding opposition to Trump’s policies.
