The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI enforcement operation on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
Police reminded the public that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can interfere with a person’s ability to drive, and drivers are urged to follow directions for use and read warning labels related to driving.
While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, the department said.
Drivers arrested for a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license.
The Fresno Police Department encouraged motorists to plan ahead for a sober ride and make responsible choices.
Funding for the DUI enforcement operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
