Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a convicted felon in connection with a burglary involving stolen firearms and ammunition earlier this month, authorities said.
Deputies assigned to the Mojave substation responded to a burglary investigation on Jan. 11 in the 14000 block of United Street in Mojave. Investigators determined that approximately $10,000 worth of ammunition, two firearms, and property belonging to a firearms instructor school had been stolen.
On Tuesday, Mojave and Boron deputies located and arrested a wanted suspect, identified as Trent Vangelder, in the Boron area. Authorities said Vangelder is a convicted felon with active warrants and multiple prior arrests for possession of stolen property and firearms possession.
During the arrest, deputies located live ammunition, property and documentation belonging to the victims of the Jan. 11 burglary inside Vangelder’s travel trailer. Deputies also found two unrelated firearms, soft body armor and a pepper ball launcher inside the trailer, authorities said.
Vangelder was booked into the Mojave Substation jail on multiple charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of tear gas, felon in possession of body armor, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
