A Jeep collided with a semi truck early Thursday morning on a county road in Merced County, with dense fog and low visibility cited as major factors, the California Highway Patrol said.

No serious injuries were reported. CHP officers said the Jeep driver did not see the semi backing into a lot in time to slow down or avoid the collision.

“Fog changes everything. Visibility can drop in seconds, depth perception gets tricky, and stopping distance becomes critical,” CHP said in a statement.

They urged drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights.

CHP officials reminded residents that driving too fast for foggy conditions can quickly turn a routine commute into a dangerous situation.
