Fresno firefighters responded to three working structure fires in less than 24 hours, including a commercial fire Thursday morning in the city’s Tower District, the department said in a statement.

Crews were called just after 9:30 a.m. to the 1300 block of North Wishon Avenue after reports of an abandoned building on fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and active flames coming from a vacant, boarded-up office complex.

After receiving reports that people may have been inside, crews immediately transitioned to rescue operations and requested a second alarm, bringing 49 firefighters to the scene.

Firefighters conducted a complete search of the building and confirmed it was unoccupied, despite challenges posed by the structure’s layout and design.

The fire caused significant damage but was contained to three vacant units. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
